What is Wabi Sabi
I have learned through that the original spirit of Wabi evolved out of the fundamental values prized by Zen monks who sought solace and contentment in Simplicity, purity, restraint and humility. All presided by the prevailing influence of the impermanence of life.These precepts shaped the defining elements of the Japanese tea ceremony or cha-no-yu: a solemn ritual designed to enable participants to escape the pressures of the material world through sharing the spiritual experience of preparing and drinking tea in a humble, rustic tea house.

Wabi in itself is timeless –without a past. present or future. And through its wisdom it creates a heightened consciousness of space, emptiness and silence. The defining factor which sets Wabi apart is its purity and simplicity. Wabi is a very intimate premise that comes from within. A personal philosophy that is found in the very interior of the soul.

Sabi could be interpreted as the aspect of imperfect reliability, or limited mortality of any object, hence the connection with the Japanese word sabi, to rust.

Wabi and sabi both suggest sentiments of desolation and solitude. In the Mahayana Buddhist view of the universe, these may be viewed as positive characteristics, representing liberation from a material world and transcendence to a simpler life. The idea is that being surrounded by natural, changing, unique objects helps us connect to our real world and escape potentially stressful distractions.
